Conference Overview

“International Symposium on Soil Microbiome and Soil Health”Organized by the Innovation Base for Soil Microbiome and Soil Health in Arid Regions at Northwest A&F University, the symposium was co-founded and co-chaired by Professor Gehong Wei and Professor James Tiedje (Member of the US National Academy of Sciences) in 2023. It is supported by multiple national and provincial/ministerial platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Soil Erosion and Dryland Farming on the Loess Plateau and the Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Agricultural and Environmental Microbiology. The symposium aims to build a high‑level international bridge for academic exchange and collaborative research, fostering in‑depth dialogue and cooperation in the field.

Since its establishment, the symposium has been successfully held for three sessions, attracting experts and scholars from more than 20 countries (including the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and Brazil) as well as numerous Chinese universities and research institutions.

In response to the serious challenges posed by soil degradation and global climate change to food and ecological security, this symposium is dedicated to bringing together leading scientists and early‑career researchers from soil science, microbiology, environmental science, ecology, and related disciplines. Together, we will explore cutting‑edge topics regarding the role of soil microbiomes in maintaining soil health, enhancing crop productivity, and promoting ecological sustainability, while facilitating the translation of fundamental research into practical soil health management strategies. The symposium also seeks to provide scientific support and actionable pathways for green agricultural development and the achievement of “carbon peak and carbon neutrality” goals.
